Sudoku Tips

Tips for solving easy sudoku

In this part you can disable notes, you don't need them for simple (begginer, easy level) sudoku puzzles.

1.) Scanning for numbers

Start with number 1. Select it, and check every 3x3 region - is there only one cell where that number is missing.

Repeat this with 2, 3, ..., 9 numbers.

When you are done, start again from 1, 2, 3, .., 9. Repeat this step until you go from 1-9 without entering new numbers.

2.) Search for missing numbers

Check every row, column and region, is there only one number missing.

3.) Check every empty field, is there only 1 number missing in it

4.) Go back to step 1 until you are done.

With this method you will be able to solve beginner and easy level sudoku puzzles on sudokukid.com

Tips for solving hard sudoku puzzles (medium, hard level)

First repeat step 1) until you stuck:

5.) Enable notes! You will need them for hard sudoku puzzles.

For every cell enter all possible numbers for that field. Or use "Auto Fill Notes" button.

6.) Search for single numbers

7.) Search for hidden single numbers (search separately, for every row, column and region). In example: Every row must have number 7. In this row only first cell can have number 7.

8.) Search for pairs (search separatly, for every row, column and region). In example: 8,9 can stay in marked cells. 8 and 9 cannot appear outside of that pair.

9.) Search for triples (search separatly, for every row, column and region). In example 6,7,9 cannot appear outside of marked triples

10.) Hidden pairs (search separatly, for every row, column and region). In example 1 or 9 appears only in two cells. You can exclude other numbers from those fields.

If you stuck, try again step 1 and then repeat 6,7,8,9,10. There are more complicated methods, but with shown tips you will be able to solve 99% sudoku puzzles on sudokukid.com.

13.) Search for: only 2 in row, 2 in column, one of those cells are in same 3x3 region

In example: One of green dots will have number 7. Field visible from both green dots can not have this number.

14.) Search for chain: only 2 in 3x3 region connected with only 2 in row.

In example: One of green dots will have number 2. Red dot see both green dots, this means number 2 can be excluded in this field.
